Um...I was wondering if anyone was going to the anime convention at the Jacob Javits Center on Dec. 7-9. It takes place all three days and I believed tickets are still on sale.

Hi, I'm new...
Whew...I just got back home from this past weekend's Otakon and boy are my arms tired. :-)

Well, not really, but still, I had a blast with my first year as gofer and then with me following more of an AMV track than I usually would. I didn't get down at all to the dealer's room, but I did spend more time than I did last year over at artist alley--last year was my first Otakon so I only managed to just find the alley after the fact at around Sunday afternoon (D'oh!).

Not much time spent watching anything in the vid rooms although I did catch the first ep of Powerpuff Girls Z, most of the last 2/3rds of Survive Style 5+, and the first episode dub of Tsukuyomi Moonphase. I did manage to miss the FMA movie premiere but since it's coming to actual theaters here in the US later this month I thought of it as not much of a big deal...

So, yeah, now that Otakon is out of the way, I'd thought I can pull your attention over to here...

It's in the Philadelphia area this one, but it's only for one-day. Rather smallish in size compared to other, but it's a start...more or less...that is, if you're interested...

Oh well, I've been sitting on this post for a while now through a great deal of interruptions and whatnot, so I think I'll end it here...

Take care then...

*pokes around*
Its amazing how many little communities are wandering around for NYC and anime. :)

Well, I guess I should introduce myself - I'm Terry, most people know me online as Doc. I'm born and bred city dweller, and I've been into anime for far too long.

I am a con slug - so if you go to anime cons you've probably seen me out and about. I've been Otakon staff for years, was Chair of Otakon back in 2004, and help out with other cons as well. If you have con related questions, I probably can answer some of them. ;) It was also just announced that I'll be heading up anime related programming for New York Comic-Con, which is the show over at Javitz in February that someone mentioned. (plug plug. ;)

Anyway, here's a few NY related anime items that you folks might be interested in.

Metro Anime :
http://metroanime.celestialusagi.net/
Holds Sunday screenings about once a month at Maui Tacos by the Empire State Building, and hosts other events as well. (Long running group, started at SVA, etc etc.)

New York City Anime :
http://nyc-anime.memnon.net/
A great site for all things NYC anime related.

MOCCA also does a semi-regular anime showing in conjunction with Metro. There are also several other fan groups wandering about, including OtakuArmy and a Meetup.com group.

Enough rambling from me. :)

Hey everyone, I just moved to NYC this fall, so I wanted to join up here and find out if there was anyone out there I could make friends with >D

I work for our very own Central Park Media, the first anime company, based right here in Manhattan.

So I come bearing news! (I don't know if it's been said before, if so, forgive me!)

New York Comic Con is scheduled to go off next year.

It's meant to be able to parallel the San Diego Comic Con, which means lots of comic-based things, cult classics, but also anime and manga.

Also, I found out about a group called Metro Anime that has anime screenings monthly and other events, like their Halloween Horaa fest.

Metro Anime

I went to their last meeting, but unfortunately was not there very long, as I'm exhausted and still in the process of moving. But from the amount of time I did go, they show a lot of great stuff: Fruits Basket, Bleach, Advent Children... they show regular things and then you're welcome to bring your own anime.

I'm going to try and get Kakurenbo, an excellent title from Central Park Media (CPM), shown at the Horaa fest. It's only 28 minutes long, and it's absolutely awesome. It'll go well with the theme of the night too.

I hope to keep going to their meetings and meet more people (though it's tough when you first you, you know? You being shy and everyone else being shy ^^;)

Anyone else wanna come with me next time? >D I think their next regular meeting is October 14th. If you join their mailing list you'll know all of it, they keep it updated regularly. I think you can also have your own events and advertise them on their list to get people to come.

I hope to get to know some great new people here in NYC and to keep everyone up to date on whatever information I get through work or just surfing around. ^_^

Does NY have anime conventions?
Hi! I just want to know if NY has anime conventions like Animexpo? I've seen in animenewsnetwork.com that NY used to have NY conventions but I went to the official website and the front page says that they are not going to hold a convention for this year. I think it was name the Big Apple Anime Fest.

NY is such a big city and its incredible that it doesnt hold such conventions. I guess anime popularity varies by state. BTW, most anime conventions are held in california. Why is that?
